What types of pipes are used in plumbing?

Over the course of history, a wide array of materials has been employed for crafting plumbing pipes. These materials have spanned from wood, lead, clay, tar pitch, and concrete to cast iron, copper, PVC, CPVC, and PEX.

How to fix a leaking pipe?

Water supply pipes that develop leaks can be composed of various materials, including copper, CPVC, and PEX, with older structures sometimes featuring cast iron pipes. Each material necessitates distinct repair methods. However, in the case of all these materials, the most common approach employed by plumbers involves removing the faulty, leaky segment and replacing it with a new one. For copper pipes, reconnection is often achieved by “sweating” sections together using a propane torch, solder, and a joiner piece. Alternatively, they can be retrofitted with Sharkbite fittings, which eliminate the need for an open flame within a wall cavity. When dealing with CPVC sections, reconnection can be accomplished using specialized joiner fittings and pipe glue.
